Hot=HOOOTTTTT-Hot!

Really hot! It reached 100 here today, and as far as I'm concerned, it was much hotter than that! Factor in the humidity and it's unbearable!! I walked outside to make sure the chickens still had cool water, and it only took a couple seconds to check and come back in. They are faring well, with plenty of shade and a corner of cool dirt to lay in. I'm ready to find a dirt pile for myself!
I am keeping cool though, by staying inside by the ac, drinking lots of cold water, and working on my embroidery. I'll be so glad when it breaks Sunday, although the weather men say that a cold front is going through tonight, bringing the high tomorrow to 90. Really!? What are you doing to stay cool, if you're in the middle of this heat wave?

Hoo Hummmm

Nothing will make my eyes glaze over faster than my husband coming in from a long night next door in the garage telling me what he and my nephew worked on, and how they fixed it. I mean really, it would be like me coming home from Tisha's, where I get my embroidery supplies and telling him about the new stitches I learned. I go into tune out mode, with the occasional uh-huh to make him think I'm really listening, but really I couldn't be more bored listening to him ramble on. So I decided to take the what happens approach. I simply reply, "What happens in the garage STAYS in the garage! Let's see how long it works!

Needlework and Bluebirds

Today I spent a very relaxing day sitting in my Adirondack chair, doing my embroidery and watching the bluebirds feed their young.

Dad made this bird house from a hollow tree branch, and it, along with several others, hung from the trees in our front yard. He also made bluebird houses, one of which I have, but they preferred this house. It hangs from the pine tree by my chair.

I watched as the mother and father took turns feeding the three babies nestled in the house.

I was able to aim the camera inside to get this quick picture between feedings. This little one looked right up at the lense. It was worth the wait!

My Peeps

I've been absent for awhile, but I just couldn't tear myself away from the sunny skies, rocking on the swing, and enjoying my peeps! They are growing so fast, and the differences are noticeable every day. This little barred rock I call Matilda, (she loves to be cuddled!)

and this little silver laced wyandotte my niece named Olivia, seen at 2 weeks,

are now 5 weeks old.

Gracie, the New Hampshire Red

is turning into a beauty, along with her rooster partner, George.

And remember Precious the Auracauna?

She's quite the head turner at 5 weeks!

Sweet little Bella, a Buff Orpington taking a nap at 2 weeks,

is a true "Bella the Ball!"

My niece has sworn she will make a movie and call it "Woman who Stares at Chickens", I swear that's about all I do!

A River Runs Through It

Our property that is! This evening we had a terrible bout of bad weather come through our area, funnel clouds were spotted just a short distance from our home, large hail, and rain like I have never seen. The result was this.

Robin and the triplets waded through water up to their knees and calves.

Jacob is standing at the side of the drive way, this water ran right over and created a rapid on the other side.

Robyn is taking pictures also, this is between our yards.

And of course, a beautiful rainbow always greets at the end of a storm. This one was no exception!
