Port Huron has been known in the past to do some really dumb things. But I have to say, this is one of the dumbest. For the bargain price of 15,000 apiece, displays of "art" have popped up all over down town.

Can you believe that beautiful shade trees have been uprooted for this!?

And this, which I would like to call "Viagra Malfunction"
And this? It looks like part of the space station plummeted to earth and empailed the sidewalk.
All I can say about this, is the orange looks pretty against the blue sky. And these are only a few. I'll be taking more pictures as I can, it's so hideous to me that these would be called culture, that we should "appreciate" it, and that it should bring people downtown to view the magnificent sculptures, thus bringing more business to its shops. Really!? Have they bumped their heads!? Maybe I'm behind the times, but I can truly say I appreciate art. And This just ain't it!

Ken, my sisters and I, just delivered this wedding cake. My last wedding cake. I won't be doing any more. I have said it before, but mean it this time. I no longer have the stamina to do one, as the time it consumes, the wear it puts on my feet and my mind, not to mention my nerves are more than I can handle now. Yes I am very pleased with how it turned out, but one mishap after another had me broken down in tears. Thank God my sisters came to the last minute rescue to help with the final details. I never would have made it without them. I will resort now to simpler things, like my embroidery and crazy quilting. Things that bring me joy, peace and rest. Creating little things for my friends and family out of love, not obligation. I guess I'm just to old for the rat race kind of things, and will enjoy my quieter life! For the rest of today, I'm going to an open house, and the fireworks tonight, kick back, and go Ahhhhhhh.....

A Visit From My Grandaughters, and Furry Friends Friday!

My beautiful grandaughters are in town from Iowa, visiting their other grandma. Fortunately she just lives across the road from me! Kiley is on the left, Tara on the right. They're a couple of charmers with their parents sense of humor! My son Chad and daughter in law Jenny will be here next week. I can't wait!
Tara will be 15, and Kiley is 13. Growing so fast, and so beautiful! Another little charmer in our family is Kayla, my great niece. She was swimming in Robyn's pool last night when I came over. "Look Mimi" she said as she was showing her new swimming moves, "I can do the dog paddle." Then she turned over and started swimming and said, "and look! I can do the breast pump!" I almost peed myself!

I can't believe I got these two pictures of Tyler while he was talking to me.

Toby is getting much better also, after I get this wedding cake delivered Saturday morning, I'll be able to concentrate on taming them more. I read an article on line about taming wild cats, and all of the great suggestions you left, are in there! Thank-you everyone for you contributions to solving the taming issue, according to the article I'm right on target!

Then Lucy, got her head stuck in the empty cat food bag she took out of the waste basket. After running into everything, she just sat down and stayed there while I took pictures of her sorry self!

I also finished the pink pillow, and sent it to a blog friend who has had a few bumbs in the road this past year. You can see it on my crazy quilting blog!

A Pleasant Afternoon

Fathers Day is always a bittersweet day for Mom, so Ken and I took her for a ride up the lakeshore for the afternoon. A stop at A&W is always first, then up to the scenic turnouts. No matter that we grew up on the great lakes, we never tire of the views.
The only time I can ever get a picture of Ken, is when his back is to me and he doesn't know!
On the way back down the shoreline, Ken spotted this abandoned house, and knew I couldn't pass by without looking. It's obviously been vacant for several decades, and in total disrepair. Yet I found it intriguing.
In its day, this house was beautiful. the brick work, the stained glass window in the front, and the gingerbread work is amazing. I would have loved to go inside....til I looked at the window above this entrance. It just really gave me the creeps! I almost expected Miss Haveshome from a Charles Dickens novel, in her cobwebbed wedding gown and moldy wedding cake to come stand in the window.
But intriguing none the less. It was a very pleasant afternoon, and I know Mom enjoyed herself.

Thank-you Cathy! and Furry Friends Friday

I recently found this antique doll bed at a yard sale. Cathy, of Tolen Treasures, sent me this adorable pillow which fits right in with the era of the bed. Thank-you Cathy! I love it!!

As for the kittens:

They are growing fast and getting more beautiful every day. There is a problem,

as much as they hang around me, are used to me being in the room with them, they still won't let me touch them. This is really concerning me, because they need to be socialized before I can take them to the humane society. Right now, there are 33 kittens and cats up for adoption. Of course, the babies are going to go first, and these guys are already 8 weeks old. It will be at least 10 weeks before they're ready to go out of the nursery there, as they have to have a physical and be wormed, and tame. I would keep them, but with 2 cats and 4 dogs, we just can't afford it. Plus, Mitzy hates them and I fear for their safety if she were to get in their room. Please. If you have any suggestions, I am so open to them. I don't want to turn them back into the wild. Help!

Crazy Quilt Progress

I've been busy working on pillow tops, and have 2 going right now. This is the kitten one I started in Metemora. The ribbons at the bottom , I may take out and do in a darker color. You can see the details better by enlarging the picture, the threads aren't showing up so great.
This is the one receiving a little more attention, I'm having a hard time putting this one down!

I saw a butterfly on one of Tisha's in Metemora, and had to give it a try. Not as pretty as hers, I'm still pleased with the outcome. Off to do more stitching!

Yard Sale Find Etc.

I really love this picture, and will be scanning and printing it for a future crazy quilt project.

I caught Andy and the kitten I named Tyler (Toby and Tyler) looking through the heart hole at each other in my bookshelf. So cute!
Today, I went for several bike rides, and love my new bike. We went out to dinner tonight, and I know I'll be working off some calories riding after church!

I'm Ready for the Road!!

What a nice surprise! Ken just came home with a special gift, a new Schwinn bike! It's just what I have wanted, an old style with fenders, wider tires, and luggage rack. This one is a 7 speed, with the most comfortable seat I've ever been on. Can't wait for daylight to take it for a spin, besides in the bumpy drive way in the dark! Not a good idea! Now a basket, rear view mirror, and headlight and I'm all set. Just like in the day when your bike had to be road worthy and safety checked before you could get a bike license. Too bad they still don't do that!

Furry (and non-furry) Friends Friday!

This picture of Andy sneaking embroidery floss from behind my computer always brings a chuckle! This cat offers some of the best entertainment a cat owner could receive.

He's truly one of a kind, and the best cat I've ever owned.

Flowers in Bloom

This is spider wart, planted on my first Great Dane's grave. I love the deep blue.

Irises are one of my favorites. The different scents of each color are so distinct.
I'm not sure where this snap dragon plant came from, it's growing right in the middle of my Indian Blanket flower.
I love yellow, and this variegated plant that I don't remember the name of is one of my first bloomers.
This viceroy butterfly loves my Indian Blanket. So do I, the yellow and red are so vibrant.
I look forward to the many more flowers to come, some of which I don't remember planting, so I'm anxious to see what they are!

Can't Get Enough!

Preston has me captivated. I can't get enough of this little man! I thinks it's precious that he grabbed the bottle as Becky was feeding him today. It was a first!

Another Cake

My friend needed a whimsical frog cake for her parents 50th anniversary. I did the frogs out of luster dusted white chocolate. Around the bottom are smaller versions. This was fun to do. When I called to see what time to deliver it, she was quite stunned it was already done! I had the wrong date, it's not due til Friday! Into the freezer it goes!!

Aren't they just picture perfect?

Andy doesn't think so, though he tolerates them quite well.

Managed to get these current photos, they look cute and cuddly, but they're still wild.

Cat Update for Furry Friends Friday

Yes, this is Daphne. A few days ago, she knocked the fan and its supports out of the window, tore and knocked out the screen, and escaped taking two of the kittens with her. She still comes back daily to peek in the window at the last two, which are growing strong and healthy. I try to get pictures of them, but the minute they see the camera they hide. Camera shy, I guess. They are both males, I know not because I picked them up, but they were playing on the floor next to me and I got a good glimpse. They still won't let me touch them, which has me concerned. I'm trying again today, and hope I make progress soon before they're too old for anyone to want.

Permanent Bend Over

Yeah, remember these gems that were popular in practically every garden you saw? Well, I have one in mine. It's called Me. I would love to get rid of it, but unfortunately it's attached. Making sure I stand up whenever a car is going by, even though it's good exercise, is a pain. My knees don't bend as they used to, so this is standard pose when weeding the flowers. I saw a lady the other day, in this popular pose, weeding around a stop sign. I almost laughed out loud, she didn't feel the least bit embarrassed at this busy intersection showing her where withalls to every driver that had to stop, as you couldn't help but get an eye full. I on the other hand, don't like to do that. The thought of eyes burning a hole in my butt doesn't appeal to me. So, as long as there are weeds to pull, I'll be up and down, up and down, up and........ hmmmm wonder if it will make my waist any smaller or get me a nice set of those six pack abs.
