Ken, my sisters and I, just delivered this wedding cake. My last wedding cake. I won't be doing any more. I have said it before, but mean it this time. I no longer have the stamina to do one, as the time it consumes, the wear it puts on my feet and my mind, not to mention my nerves are more than I can handle now. Yes I am very pleased with how it turned out, but one mishap after another had me broken down in tears. Thank God my sisters came to the last minute rescue to help with the final details. I never would have made it without them. I will resort now to simpler things, like my embroidery and crazy quilting. Things that bring me joy, peace and rest. Creating little things for my friends and family out of love, not obligation. I guess I'm just to old for the rat race kind of things, and will enjoy my quieter life! For the rest of today, I'm going to an open house, and the fireworks tonight, kick back, and go Ahhhhhhh.....

The cake is simply amazing and I can see that it took tons of time, love and effort..so I totally understand you're wanting to leave that behind. If something becomes too much of a chore, a drain, on you the very smartes thing is to leave it behind..good for you for knowing yoursefl so well and having the strength of conviction to follow-through. I imagine a cake to two when you are ready will be made - but on your terms.

I can easily understand how you feel, Laurie. I'd be the same way. It sure was worth it, though, what a gorgeous cake. I love it! Diane

The cake looks wonderful!! I know how much work and stress decorating cakes are. I used to do them too, but I quit after carpal tunnel surgery. Enjoy your more restful activities you deserve it!

You really do have a talent for cake decorating Laurie and it's a shame that you have to quit but it is understandable. God just has other plans for you, maybe just simply the Greatest Grandma and crazy quilter around. And of course the best friend ever!

WOW Laurie! That is beautiful and so detailed! I can see why you'd rather not tackle cakes like this, but I am sure they were thrilled with it. :c)
